President Obasanjo Supports China's Anti-Secession Law
2005/03/21

President Olusegun Obasanjo said on 20 March that Nigeria supported China's Anti-Secession Law, which was passed by the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body, on 14 March 2005 in Beijing. President Obasanjo said that in order to put an end to the division of the nation, Nigeria fought a bitter war in the 1960s. From its own experience, the President said, Nigeria understands how important it is to put the country together. He believed that the Anti-Secession Law that China had enacted would serve as deterrence to the pro-independence forces in Taiwan.

President Obasanjo made these remarks when he met with Ambassador Wang Yongqiu in the Villa.
